ΤÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS LIFTS & LIFTING MACHINERY SECTOR PRESENTATION

The need for vertical transportation is as old as civilization. Lifts are being used by people, regardless of age, skills, education or specialization.

For these reasons there was an early need for the establishment of strict laws, technical standards and safety rules covering in details the design, manufacture, installation, maintenance, inspection and use of lifts.

In the European Union all new lifts, before being put into service, shall be inspected and tested to determine their safety and compliance with the European Lift Directive 95/16 and the relevant Harmonized Standards EN81. These CE lifts inspections are carried out by the Notified Bodies.

Furthermore the periodic inspection of an existing lift in certain time intervals has become an institution, so that it can be asserted that the lift is still working with safety. More than 3,5 million lifts are in use today in the European Union and almost 50% were installed more than 20 years ago. Existing lifts were installed to the safety level appropriate at that time. This level is less than today's state of the art for safety. The Periodic Lifts inspections aim also to check the improvement of safety according the National legislation of each Member State and the relevant European Standard EN81.80.

TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS is activated in lifts inspection and certification since 1994, has been accredited by the Hellenic Accreditation System (E.S.Y.D.) since 2001 and has been a European Notified Body since 2000 (notification number 0906) according to all the annexes of the European Lift Directive 95/16.
